Plant Operation
Members of Japan’s National Nuclear Union are sending a letter to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry calling for the early restart of Japan’s 48 commercial nuclear reactor units, all shut down for safety checks following the March 2011 Fukushima-Daiichi accident.
The letter calls for the restart within one year of 18 reactors undergoing checks by the Nuclear Regulation Authority. This would be in addition to Sendai-1 and -2, for which restarts have been approved. The union also called on the ministry to determine nuclear energy’s share in the country’s energy mix.
