The demolition of one of Sellafield’s tallest hazards has started. A chimney on top of the oldest reprocessing plant on the nuclear site will be crunched away at a rate of one metre a week. The tower will be gone by 2020, resulting in a permanent change to the Sellafield skyline.

The UK should invest in new nuclear as part of the wider electricity mix to secure a sustainable and low carbon future and to forge new trading relationships post-Brexit, according to a new report launched by leading think tank ResPublica. British consumers could benefit from lower cost electricity if the Government was to back an SMR programme for the UK, according to a new report issued today by Rolls-Royce and its partners in a UK Small Modular Reactor (SMR) consortium.
